Centralized Web Application controlling mTOP™ Probes

Centralized Web Application controlling mTOP™ Probes

As depicted in the centralized test scenario, multiple mTOP™ probe units deployed at different locations are all connected to the central system. The central system comprises of web server, and a web-based application, to facilitate remote access through web browser clients. Multiple users can access the web server located at central system via browser application controlling multiple mTOP™ probes located at different locations.

The users can run any TDM-Optical-Packet interface tests with appropriate hardware incorporated within mTOP™ probe deployed at different locations. The tests and the configurations on the hardware can be controlled remotely using any browser-capable (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) device such as desktops, table PCs MAC systems (Mac, iPhone, iPad) or PDAs.

The active/idle status of the probe, test running on the hardware, ports configured for the test and all the probe related details are logged in the web server. The user can stop the running tests, change the configurations, and rerun the tests and also view the test results/statistics in the browser application, thus controlling the mTOP™ probe remotely.

Remote Access via REST APIs

Remote Access via REST APIs

As depicted in the test scenario, the mTOP™ Probe with PacketExpert™ USB hardware and Web server running on the NUC mini PC acts as REST Web Service Server. Command line Interface (CLI) support allows remote controlling using Java, Python, C#, and other clients.

Web service uses REST APIs which are based on URLs and the HTTP protocol and use browser compatible JSON for a data format. The clients directly communicate with the server and controls mTOP™ Probe using high-level REST APIs. APIs uses HTTP requests to GET, PUT, POST and DELETE data. Web server receives the HTTP requests from clients and executes the tasks as per the request and sends back the response to the client in JSON format.

Different clients (Java, Python, C#,…..) can connect to single mTOP™ Probe (Web server) to run any functions (BERT, Loopback, RFC2544, Record Playback, WAN Emulation, Multi-stream Traffic Generation and Analysis), using the REST APIs, permitting complex real-time test scenarios.

Browser based application controlling mTOP™ Probe Unit (Portable Solution)

Browser based application controlling mTOP™ Probe Unit (Portable Solution)

As depicted in the test scenario, a single mTOP™ Probe unit which includes PacketExpert™ hardware and in-built NUC mini PC can be controlled remotely using browser application.

GL’s latest mTOP™ Probe stand-alone hardware variant is an all-in-one self-contained test instrument. The mTOP™ Probe can include any of the multiple TDM Optical and Packet interfaces USB device combined with the PC in one single box. The rear panel displays the PC interfaces - USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports, GigaBit Ethernet port, HDMI, along with 256 GB HDD, 8G memory, i3/i7 NUC, and Windows® 11 64-bit OS.

mTOP™ Probe forms a portable solution with web server installed and running on the NUC mini PC included along with the hardware unit within the probe. External USB based Wi-Fi adaptor can be plugged to the USB 3.0 ports on the rear panel provides wireless connectivity. The tests and the configurations on the hardware can be controlled remotely using any browser-capable (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) device such as desktops, table PCs MAC systems (Mac, iPhone, iPad) or PDAs.

Overview

GL offers mTOP™ high-density rack and portable Probe hardware test platforms. The mTOP™ rack test platform is a 1U/2U rack enclosures within which PacketExpert™ 1G or PacketExpert™ 10GX USB units or combination of the USB hardware devices can be stacked to provide high density GigE ports form factor solution for testing GigE switches, routers and network conditions.

The sleek design of PacketExpert™ 10GX (PXN100) and PacketExpert™ 1G (PXE100) portable hardware devices allow multiple units to be easily placed in a mTOP™ 1U/2U rack mount enclosure (MT001/MT001E, MT002) to provide high density GigE ports form factor solution (MT001/MT001E + PXN100) or (MT001/MT001E+PXE100).

Packetexpert 24 GigE Ports 2u Rack

mTOP™ Probe is a stand-alone portable hardware unit, which can house PacketExpert™ 10GX (PXN100) or PacketExpert™ 1G (PXE100) USB hardware devices to support 1 to 10 GigE network testing. The comprehensive mTOP™ Probe hardware unit is designed for easier portability and thus convenient for field testing, which incorporates the testing features for multiple interfaces along with necessary PC hardware in a single box.

Each PacketExpert™ 10GX hardware unit in the mTOP™ system is capable of both 1 Gbps and 10Gbps testing. It has two 10/1 Gbps Optical ports, and two 1 Gbps Electrical/Optical ports. The 10 Gbps Optical ports can be down-shifted to 1Gbps, thus allowing all 4 ports for 1 Gbps testing. It is a compact with reduced power requirements appliance for high performance and optionally can include 12-port user-configurable TTL trigger ports as an important enhancement.

And each PacketExpert™ 1G hardware unit in the mTOP™ system is capable of 1 Gbps Ethernet testing which includes 4 Electrical Ethernet Ports (10/100/1000 Mbps) and 2 Optical Ports (1000 Mbps). Two of the 4 ports in the PacketExpert™ unit supports both Electrical and Optical interfaces per unit, enabling testing on optical fiber links as well. The electrical ports support 10/100/1000 Mbps, and optical ports support 1000 Mbps using SFP.

A single PacketExpert™ mTOP™ test solution (MT001/MT001E + PXN100) or (MT001/MT001E + PXE100) with stacked rack units greatly reduces the licensing costs per device. It is a perfect ethernet test tool for customers who require multi-port testing but are constrained by lab space. For more details on mTOP™ rack-based platform, refer to Test Tools in Rack Based Platforms.
